My Personal Commandments

I stumbled across a very unique, fun and challenging book, "The Happiness Project" .
As I flipped through the pages as I do prior to buying any book, I was grabbed by the personal commandments that Gretchen Rubin (the author) had laid out for herself. We all have a moral compass, personal laws if you will that guide us. These laws have been established and ingrained in us by our childhood influences, parental & authoritative foundations and our religious upbringing. But what commandments have been instilled in me through trial and error?, through raising my own children? what commandments have I discovered through my own life journey?   Below is my personal list of things that I know for sure. Yes some of  my commandments are a reflection on Gretchen's only because I've discovered that these commandment to be tried and true, like Mom's reminder that "it is better to think before you speak". What are your personal commandments? what do you know to be true?

  • Be me
  • Smile (It always helps)
  • Do it now
  • Love,  patience & kindness
  •  Remember that nature heals
  • It is better to think before you speak
  • Remember, that I too need time outs
  •  Stop and listen!
  • Bring a sweater
  • Drink plenty of water (It aids in everything from headaches to hunger)
  • You do get more with honey than you do vinegar
  • Hugs, humility & humbleness are the keys to peace
  • Music & candles soothes the soul
  • Friendship is a gift, hold it close.
  • Read, you just might learn something!
  • Hold these thoughts in your mind before a word passes your lips..Is it true?, is it necessary? is it kind?
